Wireless Router
New wireless routers have become so cheap that you may be tempted to change your old one soon. But just because the prices have dropped, you need not invest money in a new router, unless absolutely necessary. You can make your current wireless router perform much better by boosting the signal. And it is really easy to do this!
Even if you do not classify yourself as a computer hardware expert, you can take some easy steps to make your router perform better than ever before.
* Change the location of the router. Are you sure that your router is in the best position to receive strong signals? If not, try a place which can keep the device away from metallic objects and other electronic devices such as printers, monitors or speakers. Make sure that there is no congestion around the router antenna. Metallic objects can severely distort a signal, which in turn, reduces the performance of your wireless router.
* The router need not be located near your computer or even the incoming cable. You can easily set up the router in another room to get rid of any electronic interference.
* You can also upgrade the firmware of your router, without actually buying a whole new gadget. This will cost you a lot less and improve the performance. Most manufacturers provide firmware upgrade and chances are high that your manufacturer does the same also.
* If the above techniques don’t quite work out (very unlikely that they won’t) you can add a wireless repeater. This is a costly option no doubt, but will require less money than buying a new device. Repeaters, as their name suggests, simply receive signal from a router and send it out once again at full strength. This relay function can improve your web experience by leaps and bounds.
Hopefully now you can easily improve the performance of your wireless router!
