Wireless modem

The joys of wireless internet can only be experienced if you use it. With a wireless modem, you can easily get rid of the clutter of wires behind your PC and maintain cleanliness and order at home or office. Do you think that setting up a wireless internet system is difficult? If you read on, you may find out that you are mistaken!

Here are a few simple steps which are all that is required to enjoy the freedom of internet sans wires:

* The first step is to locate the WAN slot in your modem. Once you have found it, simply plug in the internet cable into the slot. Without the cable inserted, the modem is useless.
* Connect the modem and your PC with an Ethernet cable. Don’t worry; this is just a temporary connection to set things up. Once the process is over, you will no longer need cables. You should now open a web browser to type in the IP address of the modem and also login with the default username and password.
* All the above information is provided in further details (according to the brand you are using) in the modem’s operating manual.
* Once you are accessing the wireless modem via your web browser, you need to switch some security setting on. Encrypt the network with a WPA II level setting and secure your private connection with an alphanumeric password. This is the only encryption which is currently safe from possible hacks.
* Change the network name to something other than what is there by default. This is because hackers target non-customized networks assuming them to be operated by novices. You can also set up MAC address filtering, if you have an idea of how it works. However, this step is certainly not necessary.

Once you are through with the above steps, close the browser and your internet connection via the wireless modem, is ready to use!
